Episode 74 - On this episode, let's read PSM issue #4 from December of 1997. PSM was the first gaming magazine to which I subscribed, and this was the first issue that I received in the mail. This issue includes a Christmas buyers guide, and also includes previews and reviews of A-list titles including Tomb Raider II, Crash Bandicoot II, and Final Fantasy Tactics.

Show notes:
- This episode was produced in 4K!
- Something about the 24 fps frame rate used by the magazine camera did not get along will with the rest of the process. That's why the footage has an odd look. Will try to get it fixed for next time.
- I started recording the gameplay footage for this video last year, because I had initially planned on recording and releasing the video in December of 2022, but obviously that didn't happen.

Episode 73 - In celebration of SepTandy 2022, here's basically everything you might want to know about the Tandy 1000 TL/2. This computer was another Craigslist find, back around Christmas of 2020. I honestly don't remember what I paid for it, but I'm sure it was around $200 or so. Even though I already had (and still have) a 1000SX, this newer style of T1000 is what I more closely associate wi...

Episode 72 - On this episode of Let’s Read, we take a look at Electronic Gaming Monthly’s 1992 Sega Genesis Buyers Guide, sold under their “Mega Play” branding. Although they call it a guide for 1992, it’s really a synopsis of the games that came out for the system in 1990 and 1991. Having come out in the fall of 1991, this would have been great for someone trying to put together their Christma...

Episode 70 - On this episode of Let's Read, it's just the fourth issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, which was probably on newsstands sometime in late September or early October. This issue was interesting for me because it comes right after the launch of both the Sega Genesis and the TurboGrafx-16, and therefore has launch games featured in the reviews as well as in the "fact files". The fact ...

Ahh my dad had this one and gave me the CoCo2. I think I eventually ended up with the TL/2. I don't recall mine having a hard drive. I do remember booting the drive with one disk, then getting to a DOS prompt and swapping disks to whatever game I wanted. I had Test Drive I and eventually II (as seen here). I loved those late 80s Porsches and dreamed of owning one when I got older. Now I'm well of age to own one and the more affluent have priced them far out of range! Fun memories on the PC though and going to the local Radio Shack.

The PC only made it as a game platform when VGA graphics was introduced in the late 80s. Prior to that Commodore had the best computer gaming both the 64 and the Amiga.

I know very little about the mechanical parts of a computer but wouldn't you want to keep an older vintage computer with its stock parts? Is it not like people who collect older cars? They usually try to keep it as stock as possible, im just curious, thank you.

I didn’t do anything destructive to the computer. The hard drive appears to have died after I bought it, and those hard drives are a bit hard to come by so I chose to go with the CF card solution, but I could totally take that back out if I found a replacement hard drive.

I had transbot on my master system and, honestly, a REALLY good game for its time. different ship with different playstyles. The only thing that let it down was sega cheapness. Only 2 levels. it only had 2 maps and if you "git gud at it" it would go on until you died of boredom. A real shame since it was OBVIOUSLY a cost saving measure. The complete game engine was right there!! WHY sega why? To save a buck and a half... shesh. I always think sega used the 'Arcade' tag as a cost saving at the expense of the customer. Its better to say "THE ARCADE IN YOUR HOME!" instead of "It only has 2 levels im afraid we saved minor amounts of cash and ruined your gameplay.." lol ps. I owned it on CART so no excuse there....

I got pieces of game engine I would probably sell if it felt right too you know? It could pick me up in a game so to speak. Would possibly let me build something or do or start something. If I could start something and give it to other people to keep running I could just do that a few times or hire someone to do that or so on. I just need a lot of money to be that dream. I think me saying it and dreaming it kind won't happen totally like it too but no kidding. I have charitable billionaire dreams.

Nintendo Power gave us the heads up of what was coming with the future of the SNES which Japan was already experiencing. The screenshots of Super Mario World, especially the kupas on the other side of the fence caught my attention. My cousin had the Sega Genesis at the time. Saw plenty of displays of the Turbo Grafix 16. My cousin rented one as soon as Donkey Kong Country was released. Actually it was my first experience with the console. Just finishing high school and Doom made me forget about the 16-bit era as well as the golden age of PC gaming. Collected minis and collections of SNES, Genesis, and Turbo Grafix 16 in recent years only to go back and see the huge deal that I missed out on. Very strange I didn’t know very many people with a SNES so I kind of missed out on the opportunity to play it. But it definitely lived up to the hype at least on the most important games. Genesis had better games overall. But in the at least the top 25 SNES dominates. The games licensed by Nintendo and a few 3rd party games are the pinnacle of the 16-bit era.
